History of Avadh. |
|
|
Formerly known as the kingdom of Avadh or Oudh as the
British called it, the city of Lucknow is situated in
the state of Uttar Pradesh. Towards mid 18th Cent., the
epicenter of Muslim power shifted from Delhi to Avadh.
The rulers or the Nawabs of Avadh as they are popularly
known, were famous for their patronage of the Arts.
Their Royal courts attracted poets, singers, artists,
dancers, musicians, theologists and even chefs. Today,
Lucknow's culture is a byword in India for codes of
refined aristocratic conduct and exemplary cuisine among
other things.
