Perspective

‘Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle…when the sun comes up, you’d better be running.’

We all have read and heard so much about ‘survival’ that it sounds quite frightening and ominous. Survival from danger, survival through social pressures of family, home, neighbourhood, survival at workplace or survival of business, or economy. Flip through the pages of history for a clue: from the history of evolution we get our survival kit. Basically there are just two consecutive tried and tested steps, throughout the ages: First, ADJUST to the existing environment. Second, having first adjusted, CONSTANTLY IMPROVE.

In prehistoric ages and thereafter, only those species of flora and fauna which adapted to the changing temperatures, soil, moisture and elements survived. When we apply the first step to a new employee who has joined an established organization, for eg., he first must “fit in”, cooperate, participate and conform in order to survive –not in terms of life and death –but in being effective ,acceptable and a compatible team player. In case the new entrant is a radical one or wants to express his individuality for the improvement of organization of course, yet he would not be accepted; he would arouse opposition, antagonism, annoyance, irritation, resentment, resistance, and invite trouble which would make him unstable.

When we examine the second necessary step to survival let us remember that survival depends not just on adjustment, but on constant improvement which enables a person to keep up with, or preferably, to surpass competition within the environment. Call it the law of jungle, or consider it as a fundamental law of life. Let’s assume that an employee made the necessary adjustment and is “in”, accepted, safe, secure: then he must use the second principle—improve. So he must begin improving himself, his work effectiveness, his man management cooperation . Then it may result in his promotion for instance. Again, he must give 100% to conform fully to the expectations of the Seniors, participate enthusiastically in all activities, cooperate whole heartedly. Sweat extra to emerge extraordinary.

The principles which originated at the beginning of life are just as valid even today. We can apply them to the various phases of our life and emerge winners in all spheres. Just adapt, ADJUST, and conform to the highest expectations and then CONSTANTLY IMPROVE yourself. Try and you will feel better than ever…

The Departmental Heads at Clarks have expressed their views on 'Success is all about Human Relation'

Of course, success can be achieved mainly by maintaining good relations with all those we get in touch with , inside or outside Clarks, right from subordinates in the hotel, to suppliers, government officials, corporates, or the guest. It is due to good relations that I have invested in since years of service that I am reaping the benefits too---- I get repeat business and my work does not get held up, generally. But yes, I have put in extra effort to help out people in their problem, in my own way. Surely, whether guests or employees, due to which I can say I am quite successful, in only if I am convinced that it is genuinely required---- but then the results are amazing! I build life long good relation...

I believe first impression is the last one and to fulfill this need one should build a good impression among subordinates and this can be done when a person has complete knowledge of work he does, by dedication towards his duties & responsibilities,by treating his staffs as family members, all these points help a person to build a good impression which further leads to build better human relations thus, leading to success.

Mr.K.C Ajmera, Accounts & Finance

Definitely, “Success is all about human relation”.I think it is not possible for anybody in the world to perform anything without team. For building a team we should have good human relations with everybody. I think in our success lots of people give their input. If we have good relation with everybody then it is possible that in worst times people give us support, even when we may not realize when and where we require support.

We are in guest service business. Our whole livelihood depends on how we treat our guest. If we expect them to return and give us repeat business, we need to cater to their needs and to ensure WOW satisfaction levels which all is a result of good relations!

Mr.Baldev Thakur, F&B Service

Good human relations plays a very important role in success of any industry since it helps in understanding and reinforcement of mission, recruiting the manpower, training and upgrading for increasing the effectiveness, motivation, managing employees, or for liaison with higher management.

Mr. G.S Mahrotra, ED Office

At the end of the day 'success' is a part of management which means managing men tactfully. If your staff is motivated, having good zeal and initiative towards their goals and objective, and are running on the right track then that will lead to your success only because you being the father of the family you are responsible for success and failure. But to that extent human relation is subpart of it, first of all we are supposed to have perfect knowledge about team only.
I believe: Knowledge + Human Relation= Success.

Mr.Vaibhav Tandon, House Keeping

If there is good relationship between employees and employer, the organization achieves its goal and objective, which increases the success of organization. The advantage of good human relationship in an organization it helps to reduce risk, smooth business. In an organization , people come together from different backgrounds, values and expectations and so enter into complex relationships with each other. The goal can be achieved only when we have an atmosphere of friendship and trust among employees and the support of each other, where people can talk freely about there fear and problems and receive help, superiors are more helpful to each other and ready to share their feelings. In such type of congenial organization culture, good relations are easily fostered and results achieved.

Mr. Ramprakash, Engineering

Don't Loose your Temper

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence. The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.

Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails
were gone.

The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence He said, "You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same”. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won't matter how many times you say "I'm sorry". The wound will still be there. A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one.

So, for good interpersonal relations, whether in personal life or at work, control your anger.

Open Arms

Clarks amer has been fostering and nurturing artists from various spheres, with a view to preserve and further develop the art, and contribute to the Indian culture with the major initiative by Ms.Timmie Kumar.

Last month, the first art show by Rita Kuhad was held at taBlu art gallery, and the city turned out in good numbers to support her. The collection was dominated by landscapes painted freely, since the painter took a fancy to pastels.

Title         : To Bee or Not to Bee
Author    : John Penberthy
Category: Inspirational

This is 'A Book for those who Feel There's More to Life Than Just Making Honey'.Its a story of each one of us,for we don't really know what we want and when we will be satisfied with all we have. Written in a story format, this book takes you on a journey, gives you advice and suggestions that may help you to answer some of your questions about our own lives, looking for answers, trying to understand the reason and purpose.

Spiritual leaders often advise—to let go,to surrender. This may be difficult for adults but not for the young who are more open and have less to unlearn. This book is an inspirational story of such innocent wisdom and how it leads a young worker bee ' Buzz' to spiritual awakening. Though Buzz thinks he is in search of God,he ends up finding himself. And that he has not reached the end ,but a whole new beginning

The book contains many wonderful words of wisdom like:

"The greatest present is the present."
"All things take place by change."
"The power of the mind lies in perceiving differences; the power of the heart lies in perceiving similarities. Which power are you using?"
"I know being different can bee difficult at times, but there can also bee…incredible richness."

It is just one of the books which can provide you the meaning of wants and desires.

Hotel To Home

In this issue, let us explore the various types of curtains that we may use to adorn our home:

Casual Swags A simple rod is used with a decorative finial. A soft translucent sheer material  is draped in a 'swag and tail' format over the rod which creates a formal softness in  the room. This  treatment  is subtle and doesn’t over whelm the room.

Contemporary Ceiling Mounted CurtainsThis type of curtain on ceiling mounted track, is very popular in apartments or where  there are no available fixing points on the wall to mount a track. The curtains are functional in this room. They provide a softer subtle backdrop allowing diffused light  into the room. The choice of a natural color fabric will give an immaculate look to the wall.
Grommet Top Curtains These decorative curtains  use grommet top, or eyelet curtains. They are fixed in place with a rod.
Tab Top CurtainThey are popular  ready made curtains or panels, and are easy to  hang on a simple rod system.

Feel the Future

PHE students of Clarks Centre of Excellence had been urged to think and jot down 'How life has changed?' in their view, just to understand what the younger generation thinks and feels about 'Change' and how are they gearing up to deal with it?

What is life? And how it is today? If we think about it we will find that we are very busy in present time. Everyone has his own life. If one wants to change it he/she has to change oneself for every moment. But then we can bring in our personality and knowledge levels which will help us to face the changes in life .One should try to change at various aspects such as the our dressing sense ,our body language, our communication, our habits, our attitude, our thinking, our style of living etc to suit the surroundings, especially at the center and the Hotel where standards have to be maintained. Yes, we should also keep in mind that we don't just follow others blindly and change for the worse. Life is too short to fall in a rut-- of any kind.

                                                                               PHE Batch -II

Life is very important for all of us. Every person wants to live it with joy and happiness. But we can't be happy all the time in our life because our situations are not always the same so one should try to face changes and be happy.I personally feel that from childhood to now , the pressures have increased in our life, for eg, to study more and compete more, be more acceptable and presentable, earn more to gain more respect by others--- it seems like an endless race. Everyone is trying to reach the next level, but sorry to say, by any means.I feel that whatever changes are happening in our life , we should try to remain happy, carry a positive attitude , understanding and shoulder our responsibility properly, to improve our learning skills from time to time, never loose hope from our failures , be accountable , and take inspirations from great personalities.

All these measures will help us deal with the changes we face in life, easily. All the best!                                                                                 Manoj Kumar
